GUITARON REPAIR    2014

A few months ago I received a frantic phone call from Randy Carillo of EPCOT's Mariachi Cobre band.  They were performing a set at the Mexico pavilion at EPCOT when some lady accidently crashed into him while walking through the park!  She was not watching where she was going!  Unfortunately, his guitaron took the impact of the crash and the treble side of his guitaron got cracked wide open!  The crack was 14-16 inches long!  To make matters worse, three days later the band was to fly to New Mexico for a Mariachi convention and they were the headline act!  He was desparate to get his guitaron repaired.  He came by on a Sunday morning and I worked on the guitar all day Sunday until about 11pm.  I had to align the sides of the crack and bring them together, super glue the crack and reinforce the repair with 13 custom made cedar cleats.  They were glued in with Titebond glue and magnets provided the clamping power.  The repair was not an easy one.  When the crack was repaired, I then had to fix the finish on the outside of the guitaron.  When Randy came by on Monday morning to pick up his guitaron, he was amazed that he could NOT SEE THE CRACK!  It was totally gone.  In any case, I do repair work here at Desmond Guitars.  My hourly shop fee is $60.00.  If it is a repair that takes several hours or days, I adjust that hourly fee to something more reasonable.  Call me if you need my help!  407-345-1557
